We are nearing the end of a four week series at LifePoint called “The Game of Life”. This weeks topic was money!! I know it is an issue for every family I know in some way, shape or form. I thought I’d do a recap of our Sunday service on my blog at the beginning of each week for those who are interested. I know I have some friends that work with kids each week that don’t get to sit in on the teaching. They would love to know what is going on in “big people” church!
We started off our service with “For the Love of Money” by the OJays. Most of you will know the song by the first line…money, money, money, money…MONEY. We shortened the song way down and took out many of the lyrics to make it work. It was a hit! The crowd was smiling when the song started. After that we started our worship set which included…Today is the Day(Lincoln Brewster), Enough(Jeremy Camp), American Dreams(Casting Crowns) and Empty Me( Chris Sligh). We ended up singing Empty Me again after praying and Pastor Kevin talking a bit about the words and how we need to apply them to our lives.
“Empty me of the selfishness inside
any vain ambition and the poison of my pride.
any foolish thing my heart holds to
Lord, empty me of me so I can be filled with You.”
$~ When people get married money can cause major conflicts! Many times one spouse is a saver and one is a spender!
$~ Having Money is NOT wrong! Examples were Solomon and Abraham.
$~ Money is a gift from God. We need to realize this when it comes to spending it! Do you pray about the money God has given you? How you use that gift of money does count! Are you using it for God’s good? How does it affect you and your family when money isn’t spent well?
$~ It starts at home! Don’t spend money you don’t have.
$~ Don’t be prideful about the money you have if you have been blessed with much.
$~ Don’t use money as a security blanket!
$~ Money is NOT to be our highest goal!
Matt. 6:33 “Seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things shall be added unto you.”
$~ If you are not seeking God first on a daily basis we can’t do what is best with our money.
$~ When you get your paycheck or some money comes in…do you first sit and pray about how it should be spent?
Luke 18:18-23 (rich young ruler passage)
Hebrews 13:5- money should not be loved, hoarded or foolishly spent.
$~ If you want a closer walk with God…money won’t do it! He has to have communication from us and us from Him.
These are random points. There were many good thoughts to digest yesterday. He gave some great examples as well about how when we give to God first, He will provide for us! We sat as a family last night and talked about the service. We have never sat and really thanked God each time we get our paycheck or some money. We have NOT asked Him first how He would like for us to spend His money. That was good for us to hear!
What money tips can you share that God has taught you?
