Is He Worth It?

My world has been rocked and I honestly don’t think I’ll ever be the same.  A few weeks ago, Marla Taviano suggested that a read-along would be a wonderful idea! Radical by David Platt was the book.   With a tight budget I felt extremely blessed to receive my copy in the mail from a very special person.  Dozens of books were donated for those of us who needed help buying the book.  Thank you secret book buyer!

Let me just say that I have only read Chapter ONE!  I don’t know what the next chapter holds but, I’m kinda of timid to turn the page!  I want more.  I want to be sold out and radical for Christ but, it can be scary.  Is He worth it?  It’s the phrase that keeps coming back to mind over and over.  Can I give up everything…EVERYTHING  for Jesus?  Do I love Him more than my family, my friends, my “stuff” and myself.  Ugh…I hate selfishness.  When I look at my precious boys, am I willing to go where ever God may call us?  I have family that has done this.  I have friends who’ve sacrificed so much to follow.  Drop it all and follow Me.

Here is another passage that clicked for Shan and I both.  We have made Jesus into our image, instead of letting the Word of God and mold us into His image.  We make up our own Jesus…who we think He is.  I’ve seen this happen so many times in my life!  I’ve had others say, “that may be the God you believe in but, not mine.”  There is ONE TRUE GOD!  We must search out His word to know Him and who He truly is.

There is so much that I could say about this first chapter in Radical.  I thank God for opening my eyes.  To hear the stories of those hidden in unground churches, risking their lives to meet.  To know how many are lost and need to hear about Jesus.  Break our hearts God, for what breaks Yours.

I remember when I was in high school and I went to Pueblo, Mexico on a missions trip.  We went to the top of a hill where you could view the city below.  At night the lights were lit to these little houses.  I remember all of us talking about the thousands and thousands of lights and how many people were tucked into each of those houses.  How man souls needed to hear about Jesus and what He did on the cross.  David Platt mentions a similar situation that he encountered in the book.  Watching millions go to worship a false god knowing that they were believing a huge lie.  May we be aware each day of everyone around us.  Our kids need to hear God’s truth just as much as someone in Africa or Mexico.

Is He worth it?  I know He is.  What all will that entail in my life…I shall see!

God, may I glorify You.

Soli Deo Gloria!

  1. I am nervous to see what He has for my family…and nervous that I won’t lay it all down and follow Him. I am praying that this study does big things in all of our loves…wouldn’t it be awesome if revival started because of 180 or so people doing an online study and sharing their hearts. I love reading your blog…updates on facebook…I tell my husband all the time that we are very likeminded..and when I found out you were doing this…I said “see…likeminded” :)!! Praying for you Jen!

    • I’m with ya! I’m glad we are both reading this. I’m a bit nervous about reading Chapter 2…I haven’t even peeked. I read Chapter 1…almost 3 times. Two..then scanned for three. Sigh. Praying for you too!

  2. Thank you for sharing this, Jen. (and the Scrabble letters are a sweet little touch, if I do say so myself) And I know this might not be the time or place to continue RAVING over the bag you made me that I just got in the mail, but I CAN’T HELP IT. You have BLESSED me like CRAZY. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!

    • Thank you for hosting this awesome book on your blog! I’m glad you love your bag..mistakes and all! 🙂 It was my pleasure!

  3. You and Shan rock. First time I’ve been to your blog – really dig the header image up there! Glad to hear you both are opening up to Radical, and will be praying for us all as we dig through it. Nice post!

    • Thanks Gabe. 🙂 A friend of mine in Lima took that picture…it’s really much bigger! I’m always envious of Marla’s blog so i appreciate the compliment. I wish I knew more about messing with it! 🙂 I am excited about the book too! God is moving.

And finally, do you remember me? We met at the Zoo Party. I love reconnecting with all the people I met via Marla at the Zoo Party. Wasn’t that fun?

    • I do remember you! You were very busy and very pregnant? I think I’m thinking of you…I did have fun at the zoo party! 🙂

Thanks for the sweet compliment on the purse. I’m still learning!

I read Chapter 2 last night….I’m sure I’ll read it..oh…a few more times before my brain is wrapped around it all. Have a great day!

    • I haven’t tried to sell my bags yet. I’m glad you liked it! I may have to consider starting though with her advertisement she gave to me on her blog. 🙂
