One of my absolute favorite things about Trim Healthy Mama is enjoying yummy shakes once a day! I am not a great breakfast eater so one way I get my protein in the morning and some good stuff in my body is with a smoothie! Shake or smoothie..you pick your favorite term. I have been making smoothies for 7 months now and I’ve finally found the secret to making them perfect! The secret ingredient….COTTAGE CHEESE! I know a few of you just made a yucky face but, REALLY!!! Don’t knock it until you try it! My shakes went from icy to smooth and creamy with this one ingredient! I’m pretty sure this is a FP! If you use a higher fat content in the cottage cheese it would go to an S but, I use 1%.
Here’s my easy Raspberry Smoothie recipe:
~One handful of frozen raspberries! ( I’m sure you can use fresh)
~1 cup of unsweetened, vanilla almond milk
~1/3 cup of cottage cheese (I use 1%)
~1 scoop of Swanson’s Vanilla Protein Powder (my fav)
~1 tsp of vanilla
~1 tsp of butter flavored extract or I love almond extract (*two drops if you use almond)
~pinch of salt
~1/2 tsp of Glucomannan
~8 shakes of NuNaturals or a stevia powder sweetener
~10-12 ice cubes
** I mix all the ingredients together EXCEPT the ice in my Ninja. I let it mix for 20 seconds or so. Let it sit for about a minute, then I add in the ice. The mixing and waiting is for the glucomannan to do it’s thickening magic. Wonderful natural thickener for those who’ve never heard of it!
Now, mix!! I mix until I see the ice is all crushed and that it’s now the consistency of a nice, yummy, thick milkshake! You will NOT miss a milkshake from an ice-cream stand! I often drink a smoothie for an afternoon snack or on the way to church! They are quick to make and very filling! I also make this shake in strawberry all the time! Both are so good.
YUM!!! Enjoy!
Check out Trim Healthy Mama’s website for more info on the book that I mentioned! Also, Gwen’s Nest and Stacy Makes Cents are sharing wonderful recipes and tips for anyone else who is on THM!
I’ve been doing a lot of shakes just like this that I found at Dashing Dish…you should totally check out that site! 🙂 Full of yummy ideas. This one looks great and we LOVE raspberries! Thanks so much for linking it up at Trim Healthy Tuesday! 🙂 And you’re right – you totally can’t tell the cottage cheese is in there.
This sounds fabulous! I’m going to subscribe. I’m going to follow you as you follow THM & God. I’m starting a bit over 3, too. It was so good to see myself go below 3 and stay there for over a week now.
Blessings,
